My trip to California was pretty spontaneous. I bought my ticket just 3 days before I boarded a plane. I had lots of behind the scenes things go do to get ready on such short notice. This includes, making all my cards for my blogs for the week. I came across my pack of beautiful Petal Garden Memories and More cards and very quickly put together a lovely sympathy or thinking of you card in just a very few minutes. All I did was trim the edges and add a simple but heartfelt sentiment. It really doesn't need much more than that, to let someone know you're keeping them in your thoughts.
If you haven't tried making cards using a Memories and More card pack, let me know! I'd love to come make some with you. I also have full class tutorials for the Petal Garden and Sale-a- Bration Sweet Soiree Card Packs. Sweet, simple, but no less beautiful. Give theses Memories and More card packs a try.

“In the English language there are orphans and widows,
but there is no word for the parents who lose a child.”
― Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper
oWe've forgotten how to mourn. Social media is full of self-righteous platitudes about the rights of us all, but we've forgotten to put aside our philosophical differences and grieve at the loss of innocent school children. We should be reaching out to comfort and support the families left behind, not protesting in indignation upon a political pedestal decrying the rights of man. And because of this, we've become numb and lost sight of the tragedy that is amongst us.
As a child, we drilled for earthquakes and fires. Now children know the words 'Code Red' and can recite lock down procedures and know where the 'safe places' are in case they are separated from their class. They understand phrases like 'Run. Hide. Fight." They flee in terror and then have media cameras in their faces as they describe what it was like to step over the bodies of fallen friends. And we're embarrassed by a distraught mother on television, who vocalizes her angst, despair, and anger as she made funeral arrangements for the 14-year old daughter she will never see again.
Put down your politics for long enough to mourn. To grieve at the loss of life and innocence. To understand the senseless violence that is all to commonplace should not be our new norm. This isn't about your rights. Would you be touting your rights if it were your loss, and not a stranger's? Let our politics not separate us, but bring us together to contest the violence. Let us all hold on to hope.
“We were promised sufferings. They were part of the program. We were even told, 'Blessed are they that mourn,' and I accept it. I've got nothing that I hadn't bargained for. Of course it is different when the thing happens to oneself, not to others, and in reality, not imagination.”
― C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

What a weekend! Friday night, the Lad and his girlfriend came to visit for the weekend. It was great to see them, even if it was for less than 48 hours! They got some home cooking - Beef, Tomato, and Acini di Pepe Soup and a Red Velvet cake with the best cream cheese frosting I ever made! It wasn't overly sweet and really complimented the cake. With it being her birthday on Tuesday, I decorated it with sprinkles and we lit 23 candles to celebrate. Sadly, we didn't get a picture before we cut into it. Then, on Saturday, they went to visit my parents while we did some quick birthday shopping, and we all went to Chapel Hilll's famous Mediterranean Deli for dinner. It was nice to see them both happy & healthy!
Once they left, it was time to pack up the car and head an hour away to Burlington, , for my monthly card club. As I was designing for club this month, I had depleted my own collection of sympathy cards. I had just received my new Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack from the second release of Sale-a-bration items and wanted to do something just a little less traditional. I presented this at my monthly card club yesterday. The ladies loved the color combination and how the glimmer paper really shines through the die cut.
The new Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack is just one of three new products being released tomorrow, February 21 for Sale-a-Bration. The pack includes 12 , 6" x 6" sheets: 4 each of 3 colors. 6" x 6". There are also two new stamp sets, Reverse Words and Make a Medallion. All Sale-a-Bration items are Free with a $50 purchase, and only available through March 31. Contact me today to get yours!
