Yesterday, I was working on a custom order of thank you cards using the Cool Treats Stamp Set for our local State Farm agent, Sara Donaldson. It never even occurred to me that I was working on this on National Ice Cream Day!
I tried a new (to me) watercoloring technique that gives it a softer look. I'd seen this on technique on German demonstrator, Sylwia Schreck's blog, and I just loved it! There are 10 steps to each popsicle, but the effect turned out so well it was worth the extra time!
This card was my prototype. I hadn't yet figured out which colors to use, and I accidently picked up Wild Wasabi instead of Pear Pizzazz for the lime popsicle. so it is a bit darker than I would have liked. And I added some additional fun by adding the same colors to the embossed background piece with my blender pens.
I can't wait to try this technique out again. I'd really like to master it as it will make a great addition to my crafting portfolio.
*I'll be doing a video shortly with this watercolor technique.

My flower garden is full of summer blooms! I do not have a green thumb - it's just too much 'nature' for me - but my Hubs loves to grow things and he surrounds our home with beautiful gardens which attract pollinators and hummingbirds. It's so pleasant sitting on the screened porch, safe from all the bugs and mosquitoes, and catch the scent of Star Gazer Lilies and lavender on the breeze.
Today's card tries to capture some of that summertime flower garden. It came together very quickly, using the Petal Burst Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and Flirty Flowers Stamp Set. I just got this set last week and couldn't wait to use it!
Base: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" Whisper White Thick Cardstock
Layer 1: Pear Pizzazz, 5 1/4" x 4", embossed with Petal Burst Textured Impressions Embossing Folder
Circles: Whisper White, cut with the smallest and 2nd largest Stitched Shapes Framelits, with coordinating layering scallops circles of Wisteria Wonder
- Stamp sentiment in Basic Black and flowers in Wild Wasabi onto Whisper White cardstock. Add a hint of color to the flowers with your Blender Pen. (I used Wisteria Wonder and Melon Mambo ink). Cut out using your Big Shot and the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Adhere to to coordinating scalloped circles in Wisteria Wonder.
- Wrap White Bakers Twine twice around Layer 1 and tie a bow. Adhere to base.
- Adhere circles with dimensionals.
- Add a Melon Mambo Enamel Shape for fun!

Sometimes we all just need a little pick-me-up, right? This card was my entry for my team sketch challenge last week. The Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper has some super cute designs and I had a hard time deciding whether to use the dionsaurs or the cute woodland animals. Not only does this paper have some tiny and cute designs, it's also got great background patterns, too. Add in some bold colors, and you, too, will have a hard time, "Picking a Pattern" to use!
Base: Thick Whisper White 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
Layer 1: Basic Black, 5 1/4" x 4"
Layer 2: Emerald Envy, 5 1/8" x 3 7/8"
Layer 3: Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper, 2" x 3 3/4, punched with the Banner Triple Punch
Layer 4: Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper, 3 circles cut from the smallest scalloped circle framelit
Layer 5: Small scrap of Whisper White Card Stock
Layer 6: Emerald Envy 5/8" Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon
- Adhere layers 1, 2, & 3 directly to card base.
- Adhere scalloped circles with dimensionals.

When I first won the This Little Piggy at OnStage in April, I thought, "Now, what am I going to do with that?" But you know what, I really can't stop playing with it. And doesn't he look all proud of himself, having been playing in the mud puddles all day? I think the background textures added with the Oh My Stars Textured Impressions Embossing Folder adds to the whimsical feel of this little guy, too.
Now, if only my two Shih Tzu's didn't come in all wet and muddy!
Base: Powder Pink, 11" x 4 1/4", scored at 5 1/2"
Layer 1: Powder Pink, 5 1/4", x 4", embossed with Oh My Stars embossing folder
Layer 2. Linen Thread
Layer 3: Powder Pink Layering Circle
Layer 4: Watercolor Paper, Stitched Shapes Circles
***Michelle's tip: Be sure to wipe of your Aqua Painter onto a piece of scratch paper before moving to a new color of ink. This avoids transfering colors and making "mud".
