It's Tuesday Cruise Day! Have you ever been on a cruise? We went on our first one when the Lad graduated 8th grade. We'd made during a rare North Carolina snowstorm and we invited my parents to go along. They were adamant; no, thank you - cruising is not our thing. Then, just two weeks before we were to set sail, they surprised us by saying they'd decided to join us after all! Having never been on a cruise, we certainly didn't know what to expect, but were were up for an adventure.
The excitement built as all five of us drove to the port of Charleston. When we turned the corner and saw the ship, our jaws dropped. It was HUGE! Well, at least it was for us. By the time we made it to the gangplank, we were almost giggling with excitement. Then, as we entered the ship, our jaws dropped at the gorgeous and opulent entrance of the ship. Polished brass, lavish chandeliers, and mirrored elevators gleamed a brilliant welcome to all who entered. Quickly ushered to the Lido deck for lunch, we were greeted with smiling waiters and complimentary champagne. And the sumptuous Italian buffet had both the Hubs and my dad returning for 2nds, and even thirds! And then...we found the ice cream machine!!!
That first cruise was nothing short of amazing. A five-day trip to the Bahamas was our first trip to the Caribbean. We took a tour of Nassau, and went snorkling in crystal clear water. Our son alternated hanging out with us and the kids in the teen club. Mom quickly found her "spot" and sat and read and quilted the entire week, while Dad, the Hubs, and I explored the ship, played ping pong, and napped in the sun. We ate all our meals together, and then as the Lad hung out with his new friends, we explored the nightlife - enjoying music, shows, dancing, and just people watching.
When we departed, we talked about how it was a magical vacation for everyone. There is something for everyone on board, and whether you wanted to just sit and relax, or get involved and play all week, it was the perfect vacation for all ages. We've been on several cruises since then, both with and without my parents and our son. But, it's that first cruise that is one we talk about when we plan for the next one.
Won't you join the Hubs and I this October? The 2017 Holiday Stamping Cruise departs Port Canaveral on October 15th and returning October 22nd. We sail on Royal Caribbean's amazing Oasis of the Seas. It's the biggest ship we've ever been on. He plans to hang out with the other husbands while we stamp and craft at sea. There's a private room set up just for us and we have access to it all week! On sea days, there will be 4 private classes and you're free to come and go as you please. All meals are included, as well as on-board entertainment. What are you waiting for? Register today!
