This is my Stamping Bee Friday Sketch Challenge card. It uses a very basic layout, and I chose to dress it up with some watercoloring and copper embossing powder. Although it still uses the same Lift Me Up bundle and Carried Away Paper that I've used all week, this is a much softer and more subtle approach.
Cutting and Measuring:
Base: Whisper White Thick Card stock 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
Layer 1: Carried Away Designer Series Paper 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" (I covered the entire base)
Layer 2: Mint Macaron Card stock 4 1/4" x 3 1/4"
Layer 2: Whisper White Card stock 4" x 3"
This acrylic block watercoloring technique is pretty cool.
Birthday's call for something extra special. And a fun fold, like a quick and easy gate fold card, is a great place to start. I love the addition of a belly band, or belt on this card, too. The band slides off, and the card opens like a special present.
I'm really trying to build up my collection of masculine birthday cards and the Carried Away paper with the Lift Me Up bundle is the perfect combination. Stampin' Up! really thought of everything when they created this perfect combination.
*Cutting & Measurement:
Base: Night of Navy 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" , Scored at 2 3/8" on either side.
Panel Layers: Carried Away Designer Series Paper 5 3/8" x 2 1/8"
Band: Whisper White 9 1/2" x 1 1/4"
Inside Panel: Whisper White 5" x 3 3/4"
Putting it All Together
1. Adhere panels to the card base. I like to use Tombow Liquid Glue in case I need to make any last minute placement adjustments.
2. Stamp inside panel and adhere with Fast Fuse.
3. Burnish the score lines with your bone folder.
4. Wrap band around the card, using your bone folder to crease the edges. Adhere back tabs together with fast fuse.
5. Add hot air balloon, or other focal point onto the band using dimensionals.
*This special gate fold fits inside a standard A2 envelope.
Birthday week continues with a Joy Fold card. This fun fold caught my eye a few weeks ago and I've been waiting for the right opportunity to make one. It's really a perfect card if you want to showcase some beautiful paper. And if you know me, I'm all about beautiful paper! In this case, the Sale-a-Bration Carried Away paper is perfect!
A joy fold, is really like a card within a card. The center flap opens to the right, revealing a place to write on the inside. Depending on how much you have to say, will determine how much card stock or paper you use to decorate the inside.
I think I'm going to go back and add another layer to the left side. It looks a little plain, don't you think?
This fun fold looks complicated, but it's truly not. I'll be posting a video on how to put this together very soon.
It's Birthday Week here in the Irinyi house. The Lad turns 21 next week and I'm getting ready for the festivities. Last night, I made these tall gift boxes from my favorite box and bag designer, Sam Hammond. TheLift Me Up Sale-a-Bration paper is perfect for birthdays, too. Isn't it cheery? And since it's retiring soon, I thought I better use it while I can!
Stay tuned for the next week as we get ready to get Carried Away celebrating!
If last night is any indication, March's "In like a Lion" is certainly true! We had one wild storm last night - thunder, lightening, wind, and rain that lasted for hours. It's been several months since our weather warning alarm has gone off. It's a scary sound, but it does provide a sense of safety, especially when there are no tornado sirens in the area!
I spent the evening up in my craft studio, making some quick birthday cards. The glimmer paper from the second Sale-a-Bration release adds some real 'wow' to these birthday wishes. The Window Box Thinlet Dies create a fun window for just the right amount of the glimmer paper to shine through. The greeting is from Build a Birthday Stamp Set. I thought it was the perfect font for this card.
Crafting during a lightening storm certainly has its challenges. You never know if the lights are going to stay on! Luckily, we didn't lose power last night, but the TV did lose is satellite connection a few times. It's hard to watch the weather channel when the TV goes out! We'll watch and see if this month truly does "Go out like a Lamb."
